For our Annual Lecture this year we welcome back a good friend of St Mary’s – the Rev’d Canon Anthony Ellis. He will be talking to us on “The Bells of St Mary’s”, a subject close to his heart. The talk will start at 7.45pm on Saturday 3rd November in St Mary’s. It will be preceded by the Annual General Meeting at 7pm and refreshments at 7.30pm. Do come along to hear more abut the “Friends” as well as the “Bells”.
Getting ready for our AGM at 7pm on Saturday 18th November. It’s an opportunity for anyone interested in supporting St Mary’s to find out more about the Friends and to influence our future plans. What’s more, it will be followed by refreshments and then at 7.45pm Katharine Eustace will give us a talk “The Stones of Kidlington St Mary’s: History Before Your Eyes and Under Your Feet”.
It was a fantastic evening which we won’t forget. For more info and some pictures, see here.

Unfortunately we’ve had to make some changes to the forthcoming events so here’s the latest news.
Any Questions: We regret to say that the BBC won’t be recording Any Questions at St Mary’s on September 8th after all. We hope to rearrange this for another year.
Osiligi Maasai Warriors: We have had to change the date for this super event from Friday 6th October to Friday 13th October. More details and tickets will be available very soon.
Friends Annual Dinner: This will be held at Exeter College on Friday 29th September. Further details will be sent to all Friends shortly.
We are getting ready for two exciting events at St Mary’s later in the year. Firstly on 8th September BBC Radio 4 Any Questions? will be coming to town – your chance to ask a question on a topic of interest. Then on 6th October the Osiligi Maasai Warriors will be performing for us. This troupe from southern Kenya has an annual UK tour displaying traditional dance, song and jumping and we are delighted they are coming here this year.
Tickets for both these events will be available shortly – with priority booking for members of “Friends of St Mary’s Kidlington”.
St Mary’s was the venue for the annual Flower Festival in aid of Christian Aid, this year held on 1st and 2nd July. As usual the church was filled with a wonderful display of creations from many local organisations. And for the first time, this included the “Friends of St Mary’s Kidlington”. Thanks to Felicity for the delightful and flamboyant garland in the porch.
Our trip is going ahead on Saturday June 10th. There will be tours of the Cathedral and Abbey and a chance to see both towns. Times are approximately 9am to 6pm – we will be home in time for the Girl Guiding concert in the evening. Everyone is welcome, whether a Friend or not. Cost is approx £20 for Friends and £25 for others. If you are interested contact Felicity (firstname.lastname@example.org, 07821 542182)
We are planning a trip by coach to Tewkesbury Abbey and Gloucester Cathedral on Saturday June 10th and would like to have some indication of possible interest.
We would aim to leave Kidlington around 9am and visit Tewkesbury Abbey in the morning (pre-booking a guided tour if required). We would then move on to Gloucester. On Saturdays in the Cathedral there is a service of Holy Communion at 12.30pm and Choral evensong at 4.30pm; we expect some of you would like to attend one or both so we plan to arrive in Gloucester by 12.30pm. We can also arrange a guided tour of the Cathedral after 2.30pm. There is a cafe where we could get tea or coffee before leaving at around 5.30pm.
The cost obviously depends on the number of people coming but with a full coach the coach and guided tours could be about £20. If there is space on the coach we would invite non-members to join us (though they would be asked to pay slightly more than members!)
At this stage we are hoping to see the level of interest and so firm up on the cost. So if you would be interested, please would you let Jan Jeffreys know as soon as possible; her email is email@example.com, tel: 01865 580659
